Some car owners and commercial drivers who ply the Assin Fosu – Twifu Praso road, have threatened an indefinite strike if nothing significant is done to fix the dilapidated road.
Some car owners who spoke to Adom News explained that the bad nature of the road is responsible for the falling and severe damages of their vehicles on a daily basis; a situation they say is creating financial difficulties for drivers, traders and car owners.
“In view of the above, if nothing significant is done on the road, we shall withdraw the services of our cars from the road to press home our share of the national cake.
“The road in question was under contraction from Assin Fosu to Twifu Praso in the year 2016, so we don’t understand why the contractor was asked to pack bag and baggage by the NPP government after the 2016 polls” they lamented.
Meanwhile, some drivers who added their voice to the issue explained how the poor nature of the road has become a threat to human lives and the transport business in the area as a whole.
“Some of us spend our entire week sales for maintenance hence the need for urgent action by the government”.
The Assin Fosu GPRTU branch 3 chairman, Kwabena Ebo Yowson, said, the union is in full support of the strike action by the drivers and for that matter, any vehicle that will attempt to work during the period of strike will be destroyed by the union task force to symbolise the seriousness of the situation.
Some traders and commuters who ply the road for their various business, pleaded on government to fix the road as early as possible to avoid any strike action by the drivers.
