The chiefs and youth of Mankpan Traditional Area in the Central Gonja district have demonstrated against the relocation of a hospital project from Kabilpe to Buipe.
The project is among five new district hospitals and a polyclinic to be built across the country.
In a petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, they accused Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor and the Central Gonja District Chief Executive, Dr. Mustapha Mahama of masterminding the multimillion-dollar project’s relocation.
The secretary to the Mankpan Youth, Dari Dauda, who presented the petition to the DCE warned that the decision if not reversed could create anarchy in the area.
“In order to maintain the current peace and tranquillity within the district, the President must do the needful by urgently and timeously responding to our petition within one week counting from today. We urge him to urgently look at the matter before our agitation turns into chaos and anarchy in the area.”
“Mr. President, we wish to emphatically state that, there shall be a mass action by the good people of Central Gonja to resist any attempt by the DCE to put our lives in danger. This will be done using all the might we have as a people and in accordance with due process.”
He continued saying, “Majority of the good people of Central Gonja are clamouring for the hospital to be built at its original site at Kabilpe and so any wrong move by the DCE cannot be countenanced by the people.”
Dari Dauda said Dr. Abu Sakara Foster owns the proposed site for the hospital project and that it could bring about land litigation in future.
“The site of the project is sharing a boundary with a gas filling station and a river which pose a threat to the existence of the hospital when it is eventually completed.”
Vamed Construction Company Limited is ready to start work, but the Mankpan residents’ agitations could delay the project.
